Consumables

Sterile solvents for returning lyophilised peptides to solution in the laboratory.

About this class

Every peptide in the catalogue arrives as a lyophilised powder, and the first step in any experiment is to make a stock solution. Bacteriostatic water is sterile water preserved with 0.9% benzyl alcohol, the default multi-draw solvent. Acetic acid 0.6% is a sterile, mildly acidic solvent for the minority of peptides that dissolve poorly at neutral pH.

Choosing a reconstitution solvent explains which to use for which compound, how to work out a stock concentration, and how long solutions keep. The reconstitution calculator does the arithmetic. Both solvents are supplied for laboratory use only.

Questions

Which solvent should I use?

Bacteriostatic water suits most of the catalogue. A few peptides that carry little net charge at neutral pH dissolve more cleanly in dilute acetic acid. Our guide to reconstitution solvents lists which.
