Mitochondrial compounds & coenzymes
Mitochondria-derived and mitochondria-targeted peptides, and the small molecules studied alongside them in cellular energy metabolism. Every batch carries an independent certificate.
About this class
This class brings together compounds studied in research on cellular energy metabolism, rather than compounds of one chemical type. MOTS-c is a 16-residue peptide encoded in mitochondrial DNA, studied for its effects on metabolic signalling. SS-31 is a tetrapeptide that concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane and binds cardiolipin. NAD+ is the coenzyme at the centre of cellular redox chemistry, and 5-Amino-1MQ is a small-molecule inhibitor of NNMT, an enzyme that diverts NAD+ precursors.
NAD+ vs MOTS-c compares the two most often studied together. All are supplied as research chemicals for in-vitro laboratory use only.
Questions
Are all of these peptides?
No. MOTS-c and SS-31 are peptides; NAD+ is a dinucleotide coenzyme and 5-Amino-1MQ is a small organic salt. Their certificates and handling differ accordingly, and each monograph says how.
What links them?
They are studied in the same programmes on cellular energy metabolism: mitochondrial function, NAD+ levels and the pathways that consume or regenerate them.
